Is This The Best Way to Keep Kids Busy Without Using Screens?

“It almost feels like therapy. Me and my darlings can spend hours in one sitting and have tons of fun without screens.”

September 6, 2024. By Emily Stanton

Two young girls using a tablet and playing with arts and crafts.

Note: Aqua Fairy was a finalist for the prestigious Toy of the Year 2023 Awards, often called the 'Oscars' of the toy industry!

Do your little ones play with iPads too much? Do they get bored quickly even if you buy the most expensive toy? Or maybe you’re looking for that perfect gift idea?

Here’s how my little ones trade their hours of boring screen time into a full-day workshop of crafting colorful tiny creatures.

I'm not going to lie, but even for a full-grown adult, it's addictive (but in a good way).

One green turtle, then two yellow and blue crabs, then three rainbow penguins, and suddenly, you have a bunch of floating water friends! To me, it's therapy and more than satisfying.

When me and my little pumpkins gather to play, it's a guaranteed quality time filled with limitless creativity.

And the best part?

Zero screens, zero plastic waste, zero toxic materials.

So, what exactly am I talking about?

I'm talking about a water toy creation set that's going viral.

When I first saw it, I could easily imagine my angels creating colorful shapes

To me, it looked like a great alternative for screens and a hands-on crafting experience.

I mean, would you let your kids’ imagination go wild with toys or let it be destroyed with an iPad?

On top of that, thousands of people commented that cheap rip-offs are nowhere near the quality of this product. The manufacturer claimed that the water toy is non-toxic and biodegradable.

As always, I was a little skeptical.

But, I found out that the powder is pure calcium lactate, and the gel is made of sodium alginate (seaweed extract).

Both eco-friendly and so natural that some fancy restaurants make balsamic pearls.

Also, it looked so cool that I couldn’t help but swipe my card and get the biggest set that same week.

What happened next?

Three people creating crafts at a table, smiling and having fun.

The box came with 10 different color gels, 10 unique animal molds, 5 packs of magic powder, and a how-to manual.

As soon as I started making little critters together with my kids, their reaction (and my own) was priceless.

Mixing rainbow colors inside molds of water animals feels sooo satisfying!

Unlike the cheaper versions I saw online, the Aqua Fairy gel doesn’t stick to the mold and solidifies completely.

This means I can easily make many more squishy creatures successfully without having to scrub the leftovers.

Not only is it super fun, but also calming, especially after a long day at work.

Do my sweeties like Aqua Fairy?

They LOVE it!

In fact, I didn’t expect my kids to be so obsessed, they’d even forget that the iPad exists.

The largest set we have lasted up to 5 play sessions. And each session takes around 5 hours!

With that much time, kids already made so many creatures they filled an entire aquarium. A cool-looking decoration!

Inside the aquarium, the critters held the shape for up to two months and still looked like darlings made them yesterday.

Also, I’m not even worried if I have to throw them away because the Aqua Fairy gels are NOT plastic.

It contains eco-friendly ingredients, calcium lactate and sodium alginate.

They are non-toxic and quickly biodegradable. All come in packages that are made of recycled plastic so you can easily recycle them for a new adventure.

This also means I can sit, relax, and read a book while children safely experiment with gels and their imagination.

If you ask about the instructions, they’re easy even for a 4-year-old:

1. Mix a water bowl of tap water with a pack of magic powder (calcium lactate).

2. Grab an animal mold and soak it into the mix.

3. Take out the mold and get creative with color gels (fill the molds up to the brim for better shape).

4. Once a colorful creature shapes up, shake off the mold, and let it sit in the mixture for up to 4 hours to solidify.

My golden ratio: 1 pack for every 35 oz of water.

Two containers filled with colorful toy sea creatures and shapes.

What’s even better, my kids invited neighborhood friends to play together!

So, they began competing:

Who’s going to make the most beautiful penguin.

Whose bunny will have the best looking ears.

Who’s going to make the most star figures…

With hundreds of creations the backyard pool now looks like a sea of rainbow jellies.

On top of that, their family got them Aqua Fairy too! Here’s what they said.

Perfect gift!

"My kids got Aqua Fairy and instantly fell in love! It’s all they want to do after school now. I’ll definitely be getting more!"

Just like you, I had many questions before buying Aqua Fairy and here they are:

Is Aqua Fairy edible?

Right now, you can’t eat Aqua Fairy animals… YET.

Soon, they’re planning to release an edible version so kids can not only be creative with colors and shapes, but also with tastes! It’s going to be very limited, so…

If you order Aqua Fairy Kit now and once this new version rolls out, you’ll be the first one on the list to try it.

Can I get Aqua Fairy powder separately?

Is there a way to pick your molds and colors or is it a get what you get situation?

Are these dairy and gluten free?

Is Aqua Fairy non-toxic?

Is Aqua Fairy biodegradable? Or is it just plastic?

What happens after they’re made? Do kids find them entertaining after they make them or is the fun only in making them?
